I expanded on this recipe from the 1950s that used Kix as a savory snack.

Recipe Coursehors d'oeuvre, snack
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- ½ tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- ½ tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1½ cups (32 G) kix cereal
- 1½ cups (32 G) cracklin' oat bran cereal
- 1 cup (22 G) life cereal
- 6 tablespoons (86 G) unsalted butter
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
In a small bowl, combine the garlic and onion powders, salt, pepper, and basil.
Pour the cereals into a large bowl. Melt the butter and drizzle it over the cereals. Quickly add the spice mix and toss well to coat. Spread the cereal mixture evenly onto a 12 × 18-inch (30 × 45-cm) baking sheet and place it in the middle of the oven. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring twice so the edges don’t burn.
Remove from the oven and let cool before serving. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
