Homemade Maple Syrup

Don’t despair if the pantry is out of syrup. Rich maple-flavored syrup is quick and easy to make at the last minute. It is particularly good served warm and can be reheated in a microwave.

  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract


  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat and simmer uncovered for 3 minutes. Stir in the maple extract. Pour into a small pitcher and serve. Or pour into a jar with a screw-top lid and store in the pantry for up to 1 month.
