This sauce is fast and easy to make, but your guests will think you worked all day on it.

NotesMake sure to heat the sugar and water to a full boil and cook until sugar is dissolved; otherwise, the sugar may crystallize.

  • ½ cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50 mL) water
  • ¼ cup (50 mL) coffee-flavored liqueur


  1. In a saucepan, bring sugar and water to a rapid boil over medium heat. Boil until sugar is dissolved, 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in liqueur. Use warm or let cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

  3. For a nutty taste, substitute almond-flavored liqueur for the coffee-flavored liqueur.
