This is a great crumb topping, rich with the flavors of cinnamon and brown sugar. It also happens to be lower in fat than most toppings, but don’t tell anyone — they’d never know by the buttery taste.

  • 3/4 cup (175 mL) all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) butter or margarine, melted

Crumb Topping Recipe


  1. In a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and cinnamon.

  2. Add butter, stirring until incorporated.

  3. Using your fingertips, finish working butter into flour mixture, squeezing until a nice crumbly mixture forms.

  4. Sprinkle topping over prepared pie, crisp or crumble according to recipe.

Wouldn't really recommend recipe UNLESS you bake it otherwise, its just dough crumbles. I would also add more cinnamon-sugar using a white Sugar cinnamon mixture. Wasn't a bad recipe but it wasn't all that great either.

A great recipe for an all purpose topping but 1/2 CUP ground cinnamon??? How about 1/2 tsp in list of ingredients?

I make this all of the time for my desserts. It's really easy, and it's also delicious and decorative, too! When I bring it to holiday parties, it's that little extra touch that outdoes the other desserts.

This belongs on every. single. pie. It's so delicious, and it's super simple to make, too.
