Arlen Gargagliano is a writer, educator, and television personality. Although a native of New York, she spent years living in Spain and Peru and has traveled extensively through Latin America. Along the way, Arlen developed a specialty writing about the food of Latin America.

 

Arlen is the author of Mambo Mixers, and Calypso Coolers: Recipes for 50 Caribbean Cocktails and 20 Tropical Treats. She coauthored Viva la Vida, Nueva Salsa, and Fiesta Latina with chef and restaurateur Rafael Palomino. She also coauthored Elsie Ramos's  Elsie's Turkey Tacos and Chicken Soup and Dr. Manny Alvarez's, The Hot Latin Diet.

 

Her latest book, Latin Grill: Sultry and Simple Food for Red-Hot Dinners, was released in 2010. She collaborated with author Rafael Palomino on the book, which represents their fourth joint project.

 

Arlen has written dozens of articles on healthful eating and healthful lunches for kids. She has also worked with the local high school in her Westchester County, New York, town to develop a short course designed to bolster the confidence of teenage girls on the topic of healthful eating.

 

Arlen has made numerous television appearances and she continues to travel in the U.S. and in Latin America, teaching and speaking. She has conducted dozens of cooking demonstrations around the country and has appeared as a cooking entertainment expert on News 12 (Westchester, New York), and most recently on Univsion’s highly-acclaimed national Spanish-language morning show, Despierta America. She has been a guest on NBC’s Weekend Today Show, NBC’s San Diego affiliate, and on Spanish language shows with both Telemundo  and Mega TV 22.

 

Arlen was hired as chef/professor as part of the launch of  Alli, the weight-loss program, to the Hispanic market with demos/presentations related to healthful Latin-style cooking in both Los Angeles and New York City.

 

She lives with her husband and two children in New Rochelle, New York, where she is involved with programs with English-language learners. Her website is www.arleng.com and her blog is inthekitchenwitharlen.blogspot.com/
