The gimlet was created by mixing gin and Rose’s Lime Cordial (sweetened lime juice) in the nineteenth century when limes were eaten by English sailors to help prevent scurvy. The gin was added to–well–help the lime go down, of course.
Yield : Makes two 3½-ounce drinks
Ingredients
- 4 ounces gin
- 3 ounces Rose’s lime juice
Directions
Fill a cocktail pitcher with ice and add both ingredients. Stir vigorously until the outside of the shaker is beaded with sweat and frosty.
Strain into cocktail glasses and serve.
