Recipe
[ki-pee-REEN-yah]
Brazilian for “drink of farmers.” Brazil’s most popular spirited potable, the Caipirinha is based on that country’s potent sugarcane brandy, cachaça. Be prepared for a jolt! Substituting vodka makes it a Caipiroska; rum makes it a Caipirissima.
Ingredients
- 1 medium lime. cut into 8 wedges
- 1 heaping tsp. granulated sugar
- 2 oz. (¼ cup) cachaca
Directions
Place lime wedges, peel side down, in chilled glass. Add sugar; use a wooden pestle or spoon to crush lime wedges, squeezing out juice and blending in sugar. Fill glass with crushed ice; add cachaca and stir well.
