When I shared my latest secret breakfast with my son, Dylan, he told me he'd been indulging for years. Like an instant pain au chocolat straight out of the oven, the warmth of the toast releases chocolate's fragrance for all your senses to enjoy. The interplay of earthy wheat and unctuous cacao is pure and simple magic.
- One ½-inch-thick slice rustic artisan-style bread
- 1½ to 2 tablespoons (¼ ounce) shaved or grated bittersweet chocolate
Toast your bread.
While still warm, sprinkle the chocolate over the surface, and watch it melt and turn into a sumptuous treat.
