The Pennsylvania Farm Show, held annually in early January, is the “largest indoor agricultural exposition.” Farm animals up close, competitions from “sheep to shawl” to cook-offs and rodeos fill the halls. The butter sculpture at the entrance sets the tone, and the food court shows off Pennsylvania dairy products and produce at its tastiest. Sad to see the show end for another year? Wait out the winter weather and take comfort in the fresh-air farmers’ market held on the Farm Show grounds from spring through fall. Friskies Choice Cheeses of Millerstown, Pennsylvania, provide an outstanding selection at their stand. Mrs. Hall makes delicious use of their blue cheese with this tasty dressing.
Mix the cheese, horseradish, lemon juice, vinegar, garlic powder, dry mustard and pepper in a bowl. Blend the mayonnaise and buttermilk in a bowl. Add to the blue cheese mixture and mix well. Add the water until of the desired consistency. Store, tightly covered, in the refrigerator.
