Our goal at Cookstr is to provide our users with full and accurate nutritional information, enabling them to make choices that best fit with their lifestyle and dietary needs. In our advanced search, you can use the nutritional search sliders to find recipes that fit your dietary needs and health considerations. You can also search for gluten-free, egg-free, halal, kosher, lactose-free, peanut-free, soy-free, tree nut-free, vegan, and vegetarian recipes.

Cookstr’s nutritional information is based on data available from the USDA, enhanced with culinary knowledge specific to cookbook recipe content. Our team analyzes each recipe within our proprietary nutritional platform, taking into account both ingredients and cooking procedures. However, the nutritional content of any food you prepare may vary based on methods of preparation, origin and freshness of ingredients, and many other factors beyond Cookstr’s control. In cases where recipes in cookbooks already have nutritional information associated with them, Cookstr supplies the nutritional information provided by the chef or author of that recipe.

What do our nutritional considerations mean?
The below bolded terms have the following meanings, as they appear on this site:

  • Low or moderate carbohydrate <= 15 grams per serving.
  • High fiber >= 5 grams per serving.
  • Low or moderate fat 35% of total calories.
  • Low saturated fat <= 7% of total calories.
  • Calorie conscious <= 500 calories per serving.
  • Sodium controlled <= 450 mg per serving.

You can use the nutritional search sliders to find recipes that fit your dietary needs and health considerations.

Cookstr's nutritional percentages are taken from the FDA's guidelines. Percent daily values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet, and less than 65g total fat, 20g saturated fat, 300g total carbohydrates, 300mg cholesterol, 2400mg sodium, and 25g of fiber. Your daily values may be different based on age, gender, and other health factors. Please consult a healthcare professional to determine your specific daily values.

Wheat, Gluten, Peanut, Tree Nut, Soy, Lactose, and Egg-Free Recipes:
These diets require special understanding. If a recipe is listed as wheat, gluten, peanut, tree nut, soy, lactose or egg-free, we cannot guarantee that ingredients purchased for use in these recipes will be allergen-free because of variations in individual manufacturer's ingredients. When purchasing ingredients for these recipes, you must read product labels every time, to make sure that you are not introducing wheat, gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, lactose or egg into your recipes.
